Rules

When a saved reel is about food → add to Recipes + send to Notion.

What a rule is

A rule is one sentence: when something happens to a Saved reel, Magpie does the rest. You write it in the dashboard under Skills → Rules, and it applies automatically when you save—there is no DM command to remember and nothing to run by hand.

What can start a rule

  • You save a reel — every save, or only saves about a topic like food.
  • A reel lands in a Collection — the rule watches one Collection.
  • A note matches a pattern — your Reel note has to match the text you give.
  • A Creator Pack form finishes — the rule waits for the answers before it acts.

What a rule can do

  • Add the reel to a Collection.
  • Save the place to a Google Maps list, or the song to a Spotify playlist.
  • Write a Reel note.
  • Send the reel to Notion, using a Destination label and its Notion field mapping.
  • Send it to a signed webhook workflow.
  • Ask one evidence-grounded question about the reel, then use the answer downstream.
  • Run a Creator Pack form on it.

What each plan includes

  • Explorer — 1 rule. Save and topic triggers; Maps and Spotify actions.
  • Personal — 3 rules. Adds Collection and note-pattern triggers, plus note and Notion actions.
  • Power — unlimited rules. Adds webhook actions, transform blocks, and 100 Ask AI runs each month.
  • Creator — 350 Ask AI runs each month, plus the Creator Pack form trigger, the run-a-Creator-Pack-form action, and Pack answers.

Ask AI about this reel

Power and Creator rules can contain one Ask AI step. Ask a single question—such as “What phone number is shown or mentioned?”—and use {{ai.answer}} in a later note or Notion transform; workflows receive it in their payload. Magpie checks the caption, transcript, on-screen text, visual summary, and extracted mentions. If the answer is not explicitly present, history says Not found in the reel and dependent actions are skipped. A deliberate Rule firing uses one monthly credit; retries of that same firing do not.

Transform blocks

Anywhere a rule writes text, Power and above can shape it with a block. {{reel.caption | first_line | truncate:40}} takes the caption, keeps its opening line, and cuts it at 40 characters. The four modifiers are first_line, truncate:n, upper, and date:fmt—for example {{reel.saved_date | date:YYYY-MM-DD}}. Values you can start from are reel.caption, reel.permalink, reel.topic, and reel.saved_date.

Pack answers need Creator

{{pack.answer.1}} pulls the answer to a numbered question from a Creator Pack form into whatever the rule writes—a Notion field, a note, a webhook payload. Those tokens require the Creator plan, along with the trigger that waits for a Creator Pack form to finish.

Over your slots

Rule slots never reset. If you hold more rules than your plan has slots, your oldest rules keep running and the newest ones sit dormant until you upgrade or archive one. Archived rules keep their run history. Ask AI runs are separate monthly credits and show their reset date on the Plans screen.
